Isabel De Bohorques Vaca
- Born: Abt 1586, Mexico City, Mexico
- Marriage: Pedro Gomez Duran Y Chaves about 1608 in Of, Sandia, Sandoval, NM
Ancestral File Number: 513.
General Notes:
Vaca is a shortening of Cabeza de Vaca (Cow's Head), a name which goes back to the Moorish Wars in Spain. It was bestowd upon a farmer or herdsman who marked a strategic river crossing with a cow's skull, which allowed a Spanish king to cross over with his trops and surprise the Moorish enemy. (p. 17)
Don Pedro Gomez Duran y Chaves declared that he was a brother-in-law of Antonio Baca. AGN, Mex., Inq., t.356 This would make Dona Isabel a Baca, the daughter of Christobal Vaca.
Dona Isabel was probably Don Pedro's second wife since he was 45-50 when they married.
Isabel married Pedro Gomez Duran Y Chaves, son of Hernan Sanches Rico and Unknown, about 1608 in Of, Sandia, Sandoval, NM. (Pedro Gomez Duran Y Chaves was born about 1556 in Llerena, Extremadura, Spain.)
