Bartolome Romero
"Bartolome Romero came as an Alferez in 1598. He was thirty-five then, the son of Bartolome Romero and a native of Corral de Almaguer (east of Toledo), of good stature, dark, and black-bearded. Already in 1597 he is mentioned as married to Lucia Lopez (Luisa Lopez Robledo), who came with him and her young family. Bartolome figured quite prominently in the Onate annals; he was promoted to captain shortly after the colony arrived in New Mexico. His last recorded act was in 1632 when he reported strange rites performed by the Indians in the church of Alameda Pueblo." (Origins, p.95) Bartolome married Luisa Lopez Robledo, daughter of Pedro Robledo and Catalina Lopez. |
