Matias Lujan
"Matias Lujan, soldier, passed muster with a family of eight, including wife, children, and brothers-in-law. In 1681 he was described as a native of New Mexico, twenty-five to twenty-nine years old, married, having a good stature, slender, with a dark complexion, thick, black hair and beard. He had been born in the Canada area, at the place called San Cristobal after the Reconquest, and there he had his residence before the Rebellion. He might have been a son of Juan Lujan II, if not a member of the Ruiz Caceres goup. His wife, Francisca Romero, and their family returned to New Mexico with the Reconquest." (Origins, p.63) Matias married Francisca Romero, daughter of Bartolome Romero and Josefa Archuleta. (Francisca Romero was born in New Mexico 154.) |
